DANIEL URTA INFO

DANIEL URTA

Daniel Urta was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. He travelled to Spain where he decided to live. His work as a sculptor has progressed in parallel with his life. Conscious of a need to amplify his sources of information,  he left his native Uruguay in 1985. Once established in Valencia, he began  sculptural work in mixed media based on the recycling of materials (woods, metals, fragments of objects). This work progressed from its figurative roots to a more conceptual aesthetic,  involving space and spectator which led to his investigating mold-making,  modelling with plaster and sparto. Consequently he received the XXVI Bancaja Prize for Sculpture –one of Valencia´s most prestigious award in Spain- for a work of intimist nature-. He also exhibited his most ambitious piece at that moment: an installation conceived as an environment, in the Punto Gallery, one of Valencia’s  galleries with the most presence in international art fairs (Basel, Chicago, FIAC, ARCO, Dokumenta Kassel, etc).
Subsequently, in the search for new methods of expression, he completed a welding course which led him to attend a training course in iron forging.

“My intention is to consolidate a vocational path into a professional experience of dialogue between the world of ideas and the relationship with materials who adapt themselves to their ideological positions. I aspire to relate life and art as a clear statement of a personal commitment which would manifest itself in a practical form as sculpture exhibited to the pubic”.
